Together Dementia Support CIC
Health
We want to support carers of people with dementia with drop-in sessions to reduce isolation, increase knowledge and give them a break.
About this cause
Together Dementia Support runs a range of weekly support and activity groups in Manchester for people who are affected by dementia - people with a diagnosis and their family carers. We give opportunities to meet others, give and receive peer support, engage in activities that are mentally stimulating, and promote physical health and emotional wellbeing. By doing this we reduce the social isolation of these people and the stress of dealing with this condition. We believe this enables people to remain as active citizens for longer, reduces admissions to hospital or earlier admissions to residential care. We also campaign for better understanding and support for local people with dementia and their carers, enabling them to influence and shape local services and have their voices heard.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We believe in carer peer support - as they are the experts in this role and can help each other. It helps carers to develop supportive friendships with people who live nearby. We also recruit volunteers from the local area and it helps them to better understand the needs of older people in their communities. We successfully draw carers from the diverse communities in central Manchester.
