About this cause

AVOW is the County Voluntary Council for Wrexham providing a wide range of support for community organizations and individuals looking to volunteer for the benefit of others. AVOW runs the Wrexham Carers Service, Shopmobility, Childcare, Adventure Playground and a cafe. Each of these are run separately and we are seeking funds specifically for Shopmobility. Shopmobility has been run by the charity for three years and provides a service to over 120 people a week to access the town on mobility scooters. The service enables people to remain independent and do their own shopping and visit banks etc. During the past 12 months, the users have spent over £600k in the town. We are seeking funding to upgrade a number of the scooters to improve reliability and become energy efficiencient.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The service enables a large number of people who could become socially isolated without access to the town centre. The service operates flexibly over 6 days a week. The users have a wide range of conditions that could be short or long term. Pregnant ladies also use the service. Some people who may only walk a very short distance now have increased freedom to engage with others at community events.
