Since membership has doubled in the last two years, we desperately need to extend our clubhouse to accommodate our 250 members.
About this cause
We are a junior tennis club (with adult section) run entirely by volunteers with no paid employees whatsoever. We were formed some 15 years ago to bring affordable tennis to local youngsters. Our objectives are simple: more tennis and better tennis. To this end, we have provided tennis courts and coaching free of charge (paid for by fundraising) to seven local primary schools. Our coaches run daily sessions for youngsters between four and 18 and also go into schools as part of an outreach programme. Our head coach also believes in the training of young people for their coaching qualifications and at present we have five young members under instruction.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We play tennis all year round, but currently if there is a rain shower the youngsters have nowhere to shelter. Also, parents have no place to sit while waiting for their children being coached, and the youngsters themselves have nowhere to meet and chat with each other over a soft drink or snack. The added space would also enable us to hold committee meetings, without hiring a costly room.
