Brixham Junior Sailing Club
Young People
We wish to buy a replacement safety boat to enable more children and adult learners in our community to learn to sail safely.
About this cause
We are a small Junior Sailing Club (BJSC) based in Brixham and run totally by unpaid volunteers and a recognised RYA (Royal Yachting Association) training centre. We have an active junior membership of local children from age 8 to 16 who are being trained under the RYA schemes to attain various qualifications in youth sailing. Currently we have upwards of 50 children and 28 volunteers. We have 21 sailing dinghies and three safety boats. Our aim is purely to teach the children the sport of sailing and safety on the water. All our instructors and volunteers are First Aid trained and we have a strong Child Protection Policy. We encourage our older children to become dinghy instructors and offer them some free training in powerboats and first aid. Our motto is Safe Affordable Fun Education
How this cause brings people in the community together
A replacement safety boat would enable our small local community sail training club to offer more junior and adult members sail training and fun activities on the water - all at the same time. Our unpaid volunteers teach safety and encourage members to take responsibility for their own and others' wellbeing, but we also need three 'good' safety boats in the water to ensure optimal safety.
