About the Project
Working outdoors promotes general wellbeing. Dig Deep allows people to work together on projects that benefit community members. The space offers opportunities for school and organisational visits, including team building days where our volunteers can impart their horticultural knowledge to others. The space will also be used for more ASCEND classes now that the outdoor classroom is erected.
About the Charity
ASCEND was set up in 1996 and works to counteract issues relating to unemployment, social deprivation and learning disabilities in South Oxhey a recognized area of deprivation and the local surrounding areas. We move ‘hard to reach’ people forward, providing them with the skills, confidence and self-esteem to find a route to employment or support them to create more life opportunities. We work through several project strands:- Careers advice, our Job Club, courses to improve life skills, our Dig Deep allotment project and Step Up, our well-being project, where we work with other agencies eg POhWER, Herts Mind Network, to empower people to reach their potential goals and life chances.
