We want to buy our own van so that we can deliver food parcels to people who are too infirm or cannot afford to use the bus.
About this cause
We are a newly established Foodbank. Our mission is to provide nutritious food for individuals and families who are in need. We were formerly with a charity called Anode, who closed on 12/10/17 after 10 years ,due to lack of funding. The very next day, Paignton Central Churches approached us to start a new Foodbank under aegis of Central Churches. We literally started without as much as a pencil, but through our diligence and that of our volunteers, we have moved mountains. We operate out of Vicarage Mondays through to Fridays and also have a hub in local church that is open 3 days a week. Anode provided 144,000 meals a year across Torbay and we aim to match this or even to improve on it.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our food parcels carry informative literature. These signpost our clients to healthier eating and where to get help with various agencies. We work with staff in schools, doctors' surgeries, churches and other charitable organisations. We are also involved with schools and get great response from them. This instils good charitable values in young people who will hopefully carry on our work.
