Poole Forum – 'Speaking up for Ourselves'
Social Inclusion
We need funding to provide 'Speaking Up' groups for people with learning disabilities, giving them a voice in their local communities.
About this cause
We are a small self advocacy group run by and for people with learning disabilities in Poole. We are passionate about speaking up for people who have learning disabilities to improve their lives. We speak up at meetings within council and health services. We take part in consultation, surveys, focus groups and workshops. By telling people about what we think and what changes need to happen. We help services to get it right so they make a real difference in peoples lives. We speak up for our rights by having a say about issues and decisions that affect us. Members give training to organisations talking from their own experiences. We help organisations to have easy read information and we give advice and information to individuals when they need help or want to change something in their life
How this cause brings people in the community together
We need to reach more people with learning disabilities. We see our move to a new base as an opportunity to strengthen our interaction with the local community and promote better understanding- and so that more people know about us as a local user led organisation. We want our members to gain maximum benefit from Poole Forum having a base and presence in a busy community leisure centre.
