We want funds to promote Gaelic through local radio, recording and film for residents of all abilities, young and old on Barra.
About this cause
Voluntary Action Barra & Vatersay (VABV) Our objectives are, amongst other things, to promote any charitable purpose for the inhabitants of the islands of Barra & Vatersay in education, the furtherance of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness. To also promote and support Social Enterprise, Community Film and Radio Projects, Community Transport and Volunteering. Voluntary Action Barra & Vatersay (VABV) works to ensure that people have opportunities to volunteer and are supported to do so. Voluntary Action Barra & Vatersay is responsive to the diversity of the community and is well managed, governed and effective.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Gaelic language is an integral part of this community. It is the first language of choice for the older residents and there has been a huge resurgence of the language amongst the young residents. This project offers all residents at all levels to take part in this cross-generational project, to use the language whilst working with new technology and equipment. It also be open to all residents.
