About this cause

The John Thomson Memorial Committee was founded in 1983 to promote the memory of John thomson in his home town and the surrounding area. We are committed to improving the quality of life for young people in our community. We hold an annual football tournament open to all children on or near the date of the anniversary of John Thomson's death. We also hold coaching sessions to encourage young people to participate in sporting activities as part of a healthy lifestyle as well as allowing the opportunity to increase their skills. Our objectives are: promote and develop programmed activities aimed meeting local need; promote the well-being of the community by promoting community spirit and participation; develop activities to include and benefit the whole community.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Young people who participate will have increased skills and confidence and have the opportunity to learn from SFA coaches. They will also have the opportunity to play football in front of family and local spectators during the tournament. The wider community will benefit by an increased sense of community spirit and participation.
