6th East Grinstead Guides
Young People
We need to replace worn out and broken tents and buy cooking equipment to take the guides away next summer.
About this cause
Guides aged 10-14 are supported by a Young Leader team aged 14-18 and adult volunteers aged 18+. There are 50 Guides at the 6th East Grinstead Guides group with 6 Young Leaders and 8 adult volunteers. The activities range from adventure to life skills, creativity to challenges, sports to supporting local groups. All the adults are volunteers, organising the weekly meetings, trips out and week long camps in their free time. The leaders undergo training and attend area meetings to stay current with Girlguiding updates around first aid, Safeguarding and other topics such as youth mental health and online safety. The aims are to encourage confidence, learn about their surroundings and the wider world, explore and share in teamwork, leadership and take up opportunities.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Guides learn skills to see them into the future such as safety around fire, cooking hygiene, teamwork and leadership to name a few. Camping provides them with the chance to discover more about themselves, develop friendships and experience new things. The leaders are all volunteers and use their own annual leave from work to enable this to happen. The tents will be used for years to come.
