About this cause
Wigan & Leigh People First is a user led self advocacy charity for People with Learning Disabilities. Self advocacy is about Speaking Up for yourself. We listen to what people have to say and support people to have a voice. We have been a charity since 2008 and we are based in Golborne in Wigan. We offer a range of activities, drop in sessions, workshops and social opportunities. These are for anyone with a learning disability across Wigan Borough & the surrounding areas. We work alongside some of the most vulnerable and socially isolated within the borough and our aim is to give them the very best quality of life.
How this cause brings people in the community together
By supporting the most vulnerable, this project will enable individuals to become valued members of their community. We also feel that by raising awareness we can be part of supporting the wider community to become more understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities which could lead to a more cohesive community.
