The Kench Hill Charity
Young People
We want to give local school children inspiring day visits to learn about nature, healthy eating, food production and personal growth.
About this cause
Kench Hill is a residential environmental education centre which mainly serves children and families of Hackney in East London, by providing holistic educational and therapeutic visits to the countryside, for those living in areas of urban deprivation. We teach about healthy eating, growing, the natural world plus curriculum-linked study. Our objectives are: “The promotion and advancement for the public benefit, of personal development of young people and adults by education and instruction through participation in a wide variety of activities with special emphasis on physical endeavour in the outdoors and education in a rural environment.” We run Short Breaks for families of children with special needs. We are now developing our work with children from the local area.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Teachers told us that their pupils, despite living in rural locations, lack contact with the natural world, have poor eating habits and often lead a sedentary lifestyle at home. We hope to inspire this young generation with a love of the outdoors, healthy eating and knowledge of food production. We hope the project will raise awareness of our facility to local users and be sustainable.
