Kingsweston School
Young People
We want to buy accessible equipment to develop our play and communication skills in our Forest School and horticulture sessions.
About this cause
Kingsweston is an above average sized special school primarily serving Bristol pupils. We cater for children and young people with a wide range of needs, including Asperger’s and Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties and complex needs. All of our pupils have a statement of special educational needs. Throughout the year all students attend Forest School & Horticulture sessions to improve their well-being, encourage an understanding of their natural environment and develop knowledge of how fruit and vegetables are grown. Funding from Co-op will be used to purchase appropriate equipment to engage and encourage our students in these sessions as well as provide a permanent structure outside to enable young people to be in an outdoors environment in all weathers.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Outdoor sessions improve pupils well-being, behaviour and self esteem this will in turn impact on their parents/carers and siblings, having a happier and more content young person at home. Once equipment is in place we will hold a celebration with friends and family of our school to showcase what can be done with an outdoor space and encourage families to spend more time outdoors at home.
