About this cause

Down Syndrome Liverpool supports families in the Liverpool area who have been touched by Down Syndrome. Our aim is also to raise awareness about our young people and their capabilities and about Down Syndrome in general. We strive to support the people who work with our children by providing free training to education and healthcare professionals. DSL is run by a group of voluntary trustees who raise funds to provide: up to date training for parents and professionals, new members welcome pack and home visits, a monthly Playgroup, free social activities, an evening at the Yellow Sub in Brunswick Dock (ages 0-12) and pizza night (ages 12+), summer trips, the Christmas party, a biannual fundraising ball. A twice yearly newsletter called DownTime. We run a Facebook Page and Twitter page.

How this cause brings people in the community together

At our Playgroup parents of preschool children can meet and chat over coffee whilst the children play. It is a very supportive group where worries are shared and friends are made for life. This is the only Playgroup in Liverpool specifically for children with Down Syndrome. We also regularly invite professionals, such as Speech and Language to our Playgroup to talk to parents and answer questions.
