Leach Pottery
Art & Culture
We want to host a local ‘Clay Club’ after school for local St Ives children from less privileged backgrounds aged between 6-12.
About this cause
The Leach Pottery was established in 1920 by artist potter Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. It continues as a working pottery making Standard Ware and training both local and international potters. It is home to the Museum, Shop, Library and a Learning Space. Our Vision: To Create, Educate & Inspire Our passion for handmade Studio Pottery is infectious, breaking down barriers so that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate quality, handmade ceramics. We want to inspire others to get creative, learn new skills, and learn about our traditions. We work with our local community and like to help local children experiment in clay. We provide school sessions and one off experiences for children but don't have the funds to work on a long term project with local children.
How this cause brings people in the community together
There are less and less opportunities for children to be creative in school and too expensive for many families. A 2 year project with local children to develop their creativity is really important to their development. Children need a variety of tactile experiences to learn about the complexity & richness the world has to offer. In this ever more technologically focused world, kids miss out.
