About this cause

The Roots Foundation Wales is a voluntary led charity that supports young people in care, leaving care and those in kinship care (living with extended family members) and their carers. We provide activities, training, workshops, drop in youth club and 1:1 advice and guidance sessions. We have a specific project that supports young people in care who have been the victims of exploitation in its various forms and one of our aims is to break down the barriers and stigma of those in care and encourage the creation of a support network whilst encouraging care leavers to learn independent living skills that can assist to a more smoother and positive transition into living independently. Our young people have won many awards including The Diana Award, Volunteer of the year award and many others.

How this cause brings people in the community together

By combating the fear & isolation that care leavers suffer when moving out of foster placements and residential homes. Many young care leavers are still extremely vulnerable and open to abuse and exploitation when leaving care and if we can offer the holistic and bespoke approach to their care and teach them the skills they need to move positively and successfully, they will make positive choices.
