Sheffield Sea Cadets
Education & Skills
We want to set up a boating station to provide local experience including sailing, powerboating, windsurfing, rowing and paddle sport.
About this cause
A youth charity offering young people, of Sheffield/surrounding area, aged 10-18 life-changing nautical adventure with a heritage based on the customs & traditions of the Royal Navy. We offer a range of qualifications & training from BTEC to RYA accredited courses, helping build skills & have an advantage as they start out in life. After they turn 18 our cadets they join the volunteer team, begin to coach and develop the next group of young people, and share the skills, experience and qualifications they have gain with the next generation of Sea Cadets. A 2010 survey found: 90% said cadets offered 'direction & guidance'; 90% team working/leadership; 95% are in full time education, work experience or work; 90%+ higher self-esteem; 50%+ cadets helped with college/university applications
How this cause brings people in the community together
This boating station is a great opportunity to provide boating experience for the young people in the Sheffield area. Through these activities, they will develop a range of life skills including discipline, respect, self-awareness, teamwork, problem solving alongside more formal qualification including BTEC and Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
