About this cause

We are a Community Cooperative (community benefit society) serving the rural area of the Rame Peninsula in SE Cornwall. We have 578 local members with more residents joining each week; all our staff, volunteers and Trustees are local people. Our objectives are to strengthen and safeguard the community of our area, by providing services and opportunities, by building community spirit and through volunteering. We run The Rame Centre, a volunteer-led community hub in Millbrook, the main village of our area. The centre opens six days/week, providing a huge range of services including welfare advice, computer centre, Adult Ed classes, a microlibrary, an art wall, Memory Café (dementia group), young adults group, housing support and a meeting place for many local groups.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We know from our own members and existing work that many older people are isolated, sometimes housebound and in need of help. We are an established local group with a good track record; we have plenty of willing volunteers, and just need a little money to start the process. We will strengthen community spirit by bringing people together to directly support those in need, with their time and energy
