About this cause

Grow Moorlands is a Leek based partnership including The Meadows Special School and Springfield Special School which aims to provide learning, training, work experience, and, eventually, actual work for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. The focus is on gardening and grounds maintenance. In the last 12 months Grow Moorlands participants have improved and maintained the two flower beds outside the West Street, Leek Co-op store and also flower beds at Sparrow Park, Derby Street, Leek. The long term aim is to enhance the employability of young people with learning disabilities so that they get better chances for future employment, as they are often at the bottom of the pile when it comes to jobs.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The young people with learning disabilities who will learn new skills through this project are all local residents so this impacts on many local families. The sites the project will enhance and maintain are all in the public arena (outside shops or social homes) so, if they are made to look beautiful, it creates a lovely environment for all!
