We would like to raise £10,000 to allow children struggling with severe mental health difficulties on our waiting list to access services.
About this cause
Strength in Horses offers Equine Assisted Therapy at its specialist stables in North London to vulnerable children and adults with complex mental health and or learning disabilities as well as those with addictions, trauma, and offending behaviour. The majority of our clients come from deprived areas and have often experienced abuse and trauma. Our work provides some of the most emotionally disturbed and distrusting young people an opportunity to begin to rebuild their relationships with people. Staff and parents who refer the children and adults to our services do so because often the therapeutic work which they have been involved in prior to coming to us has had limited effectiveness. We work closely with a number of schools and organisations referring children to the project.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Young people's social workers and teachers have testified to witnessing significant improvements in the children's’ attitudes, social awareness and behaviour following their sessions. These changes in behaviour along with the positive relationships they build with our horses results in improvement in other relationships within their communities and the willingness to support others around them.
