Shrewsbury Canal Restoration

We want to restore and re-water the section of the old canal from Sundorne to Pimley, for the benefit of the local community.
About this cause
The Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust (SNCT) is aiming to restore the canal between Shrewsbury, Newport (Shrops) and Norbury Junction. The Shrewsbury Support Group of the SNCT, who are making this application, are actively working to re-water a 1 mile section within the town boundary, for the benefit of the local community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project will provide a 'green corridor' for walkers, cyclists and fishermen from near the centre of the town into the country. We aim to provide a facility for safe canoe instruction for young and old. An important part of the project is developing ecological areas for local wildlife, including the great crested newts, which will be a wonderful resource for local school nature study groups.
