About this cause

Ponteland Lions Club was founded in 1982 and serves the community by arranging fund raising events and using the money to support local people and organisations and some of the Lions’ projects overseas. The Lions run a bookstall on the last Saturday of the month outside Waitrose. Unwanted spectacles are also collected for recycling to poorer countries. The Club runs a Swimarathon where teams raise money by sponsoring a swim. We have a tin collection in Ponteland. The Club distributes the money raised by these events to local charities, young people performing charity work abroad and local hospices. The Club takes less able people to the Panto. We work with the schools in a "Peace Poster" competition. The Ponteland Lions Club welcomes both men and women as members.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of premature death, with approx. 60,000 occurring in the UK. Many victims can be given a chance of survival if somebody recognises what has happened and calls 999. This will give them access to the nearest defibrillator and treatment can be given immediately. The equipment guides anybody through the necessary steps without training.
