About this cause

Milton Keynes Museum was formed in the early 1972 by a group of local volunteers determined to preserve the area’s past from bulldozers arriving to build Britain’s biggest new town. Occupying land once owned by Dr John Radcliffe, its attractions include a Victorian farmhouse, street of shops, transport hall and Connected Earth gallery, In MK's 50th birthday year the Museum now plans to tell the FULL story of this area, from the time when dinosaurs swam in the tropical sea that covered it, through to the creation of the UK's most ambitious new town. This expansion, featuring two major new galleries, aims to celebrate the rich - yet almost unrecognised - heritage of 'the new city' and to celebrate the stories of all those, from around the UK and the world, who have made it their home.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Without Milton Keynes Museum, the city's rich heritage would have been lost. We're now in danger of losing our recent heritage: the story of the planners, pioneers and peoples who've made it the success it is today. More than 80% of the city's population come from somewhere else. The People's Story exhibit will give the community roots and a sense of their own place in our shared history.
