About this cause

The Boys’ Brigade engages with children and young people providing opportunities to meet together in their communities and engage in a range of fun and developmental activities. The company meets every week during school term times, the 1st Prestwick Company typically having 50 to 60 boys ranging from ages 8 to 18. The boys are taught Christianity, in support of the community, and are encouraged to develop in various skills including Leadership, decision making, and participation. This often takes the form of team games, group marching, crafts or activities. The boys are encouraged to be active in the community, often in conjunction with the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. The boys also regularly participate in charity fund-raising, with the charity chosen by the boys.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Marching is a core skill of the Boys Brigade, teaching the boys discipline, team co-ordination, Leadership, teamwork, and providing a great sense of personal achievement. The 1st Prestwick Company regularly participates in marches within the public environment, attending Boys Brigade battalion events, Church and rememberance parades. This is a great source of pride within the local community.
