Age UK Cornwall
Social Inclusion
We want to create a group providing cooking classes that will offer practical and peer-support for older people following a bereavement.
About this cause
We are an independent charity in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly working to improve the wellbeing of older people. Our main objectives: Providing support, products and services that promote independence and choice. Providing support to local communities enabling sustainable solutions to individuals and families. Improving public understanding of the needs and views of older people by providing opportunities for older people to have their voices heard. Exploring and promoting innovative ways of meeting needs affecting people in later life, and Working in partnership to promote older peoples' interests. We provide products and services across Cornwall including: Helpline services, befriending, day services, community transport services and hospital-home support.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The shock of bereavement can cause people to become isolated and have a major impact on health. Essential daily living skills may be lost with the loss of a partner. This group will utilise the power of peer support and education in cooking skills and nutrition to enable those affected by bereavement to maintain health, wellbeing and their role as active and valued members of the whole community.
