We are developing an inclusive play & family/carer support group for families of deaf children within Cardiff and the surrounding area.
About this cause
Cardiff Deaf Centre has been the 'go to location' for the Deaf Community in Cardiff and the surrounding area for over 100 years . The centre offers several different local community groups and services and provides a familiar and safe space for all members of the deaf community . The Centre provides an historical home of history of the Deaf Community in Cardiff,a location for the protection & promotion of Deaf Culture & Language in Cardiff and the surrounding area. Cardiff Deaf Centre provides many social activities/services for the community , is looking to grow and improve services provided. Also it is central location for consultation with local, regional and national government bodies , to enable the Deaf Community to have a voice on matters that directly affect them.
How this cause brings people in the community together
1) Brings together two communities who have previously not integrated well 2) Provides peer to peer support & education 3) Supports the development of British Sign Language for children & parent/carers 4) Promotes bilingualism for Deaf Children ( BSL & English) 5) Helping to reduce language deprivation and late language centre development 6) Promoting child health & development through play
