About this cause

We are Asylum Academy for Extreme Sports (ACES) - registered charity number 1159288. Since Nov 2014 we've provided a sustainable indoor Skatepark in Sutton in Ashfield, catering for skating, skateboarding, BMX and scooter riding, helping over 10,000 young people each year to live active, healthy and sociable lifestyles. Our objectives furthering amateur sport by encouraging people to participate in extreme sports; making extreme sports accessible to local people who may not otherwise be able to afford to participate. We keep entry fees affordable, open long hours so we're accessible to all ages, provide free entry to those facing significant challenges in life and sponsor talented youngsters so they can achieve their full potential in extreme sports (now in the Olympics).

How this cause brings people in the community together

Over 10,000 customers a year participate in extreme sports in our indoor Skatepark. Most are local young people from Ashfield who have no interest in 'mainstream' sports and who would otherwise lead less active lifestyles. Obesity is increasing in our area, costing the NHS over £2 million each year. Giving the kids a new, safe, fun addition to our Skatepark will keep them coming back.
