ReCOM
Education & Skills
Help us provide training and support to give local residents the skills and confidence to use the internet to save time and money.
About this cause
Set up in 2002, ReCOM helps people benefit from getting online. Being IT literate is essential to participate fully in today's society. Yet many are still missing out; those most likely to be 'digitally excluded' are older people, manual workers, lower income households, and people with disabilities. We are dedicated to bridging this gap in our community by empowering residents to make long lasting life changes that help build stronger communities. In Chelmsley Wood we - train jobseekers bringing them closer to employment, - help the housebound to build skills and overcome isolation, - support residents to use digital channels to help them access essential services so saving time and money. A lot of our work is delivered by local volunteers.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Many people on limited incomes are struggling to manage. Helping them manage better helps keep the local community vibrant. This project aims to - increase financial resilience -reduce levels of stress with a greater sense of control -promote greater feelings of wellbeing from opening up new horizons and possibilities - increase confidence & self esteem at learning something new
