We plan to create a new kitchen to cater for regular coffee mornings, fairs and community gatherings.
About this cause
We provide part time therapuetic occupation, in a safe & caring environment, for people who are disadvantaged through disability or long term health conditions in the Derbyshire Dales. Our workshop members (beneficiaries) have either learning difficulties, mental health problems, suffered accidental injury or have a medical condition such as stroke, sensory impairment, epilepsy, bi-polar, arthritis, heart condition, & as a consequence are unable to return to full time employment, but are capable of carrying out therapeutic work in a social environment The main activities of the workshop are cane & rush chair repairs, general printing services to the community. We also have an allotment to grow our own produce. These activities raise valuable income towards the costs of the workshop.
How this cause brings people in the community together
There has been a significant increase in local residential properties which has left our workshop surrounded by new houses. The final phase of a major private retirement village is now under way & a large new estate is planned within half a mile of the workshop. We plan to hold community events at the workshop to highlight the benefits from volunteering & helping in those who need help
