About this cause

We provide disabled people across Warwickshire with the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball. In doing this, we aim to reduce isolation and improve overall health of people with disabilities. We aim to build a strong community amongst participants, raise awareness of the sport and correct misconceptions about disabled people. We run 3 training sessions a week involving about 40 people, including one session per week for younger players. We provide specialist sport wheelchairs for these sessions including smaller wheelchairs designed for younger players. We run 6 taster sessions each year involving approx. 100 people, to raise awareness and give disabled and abled bodied people the opportunity to play together.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We require the new wheelchairs to improve opportunities in Henley-in-Arden and South Warwickshire for children and young people with disabilities. Our activities are socially inclusive meaning that they help raise awareness of disabilities whilst improving the self-esteem and confidence of disabled children as they will excel in a sport specifically designed for regular wheelchair users.
