About this cause

241(Wanstead & Woodford) Air Training Corps is part of a country-wide organisation affiliated to the RAF. It is open to 12-19yr. olds, recruited from all sections of the local community and, in parallel with their schooling, provides the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, social interaction and values. The training includes flying, gliding, shooting, drill, adventure training, mountaineering, B Tech qualifications, first aid, competitive sport and Duke of Edinburgh Award to Gold level. The Squadron has 100-150 cadets. They meet at their unit 2 evenings a week, with added activities on most weekends. It is financed in 3 ways: basic funding by the RAF, cadet subscriptions and fund-raising by the Civilian Committee, comprised usually of cadets' parents.

How this cause brings people in the community together

It will enable us to mount more expeditions to get our young people to participate in the DoE scheme from our local comunity. This will have a very positive impact on the lives and life chances of our young people in a borough that is ranked 16th in London in the young persons poverty index.
