About this cause

The Upper Norwood Library Hub is a community managed library run for and by the community. We offer a ‘cradle-to-grave’ service, having significant reach into our local community. We aim to be a safe place for some of the most marginalised people in our community, where they can access a range of services including ESOL, reading support, digital inclusion and a home visiting service to tackle loneliness and isolation. We have a full library lending service as well as activities such as life drawing, yoga for children, storytelling sessions and careers advice. We are excited to have started a ‘Library of Things’, in March 2017 we had 9672 active borrowers and in an average week we have 4000 visitors.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Work with local organisations (Barnardo’s, Crystal Palace Transition Town, National Careers Service and St Christopher’s Hospice) to improve volunteer capacity. Individuals gain skills, knowledge and confidence for employment. More involved in shaping their communities by being matched with the best opportunities for them.
