We want to offer free Deaf Awareness training to all ten Greater Manchester boroughs.
About this cause
Genie Networks is a deaf-led, parent-led professional organisation which strives to improve the quality of life for those affected by hearing loss and their families. We work in partnership with children, families and volunteers to develop independence and promote a positive perception of deafness. We specialise in advocacy, supporting people to overcome barriers and developing communication. Through our various sessional activities, aimed at different age groups, we strive to reduce isolation, improve communication within the home, and create peer networks for both children and parents. Genie Training Academy runs British Sign Language taster sessions, Levels 1-6 and interpreter courses, as well as English Modification for Communication Support Workers.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The local communities will become friendlier toward deaf people through a greater understanding of their needs and language. Those attendees who work in retail and public services will be able to offer a better service to local deaf people. Deaf people will feel more welcome within their local community and be able to access services easier than before. Therefore community cohesion will improve.
