About this cause

Saint Michael’s exists to support adults living with terminal illness and bereavement in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire. We achieve this through free services including an inpatient unit, day therapy, lymphoedema clinics and specialist community nurses. At the heart of the local community, we are dedicated to improving end of life care, helping people stay in their preferred place of care for as long as possible. Alongside this, we also provide a bereavement and emotional wellbeing service, Just ‘B’, helping any child, young person or adult to express and understand their grief, as well as supporting people with mental ill health. Each year we support over 2,000 people across the area helped by the dedication of over 600 volunteers who make up over 80 percent of our team.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our support services are accessible to all. We reach out to people living in the Harrogate district which covers 505 square miles and has a population of 160,000. We are the only free, specialist bereavement service in the area. We give community volunteers annual training and supervision, providing them with invaluable skills, helping them to support local people struggling with their grief.
