About this cause

The Mersey Rivers Trust is a charity working in partnership with all those interested in improving our local rivers and waterways. As a member of the national Rivers Trust movement, it is the Rivers Trust for the River Mersey and its catchment. The Trust proactively engages with local communities, land owners, regulators and other stakeholders to help clean up the rivers in the Mersey Catchment. Our 'River Guardians' programme enables volunteers to become citizen scientists and keep an eye on their local rivers and streams. We provide equipment, training and a hub for River Guardians in the Mersey catchment. We have 'Love Your River' projects to improve local brooks and encourage local communities to love their river.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Improving rivers for people and wildlife: By monitoring their brooks, the local community will take ownership of their environment, enjoy the green space more and become healthier because of it. They will be able to meet new people and work together in small groups. Their activity will benefit the whole community and they will gain the satisfaction of improving their own environment.
