The Ambler Community Newspaper
Community Development
We would like to upgrade the Ambler website and further develop the printed version.
About this cause
Amble Development Trust is a charity charged with the regeneration of the former coal port. During its 23 years of activity the Trust has secured funding, initiated and completed many projects; from major infrastructure to community development programmes. One such community project is The Ambler, a community newspaper distributed 6 times per year to every household in the town and accessible online. The Ambler is complied by one paid staff member, all other contributors are volunteers from the community or contributions from the community. The newspaper is well respected and anticipated from one issue to the next including from expats who view online Printing and distribution costs are covered in part by advertising revenue which we try to keep to a minimum to retain readership interest.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Ambler newspaper is aimed at all age groups with articles written or submitted by members of the community. A printed version is delivered to every household in the town, but the website is increasingly accessed on mobile devices. We need to keep pace with technology, ensuring local people are in touch with local events, and to encourage discussion on issues of interest to the community.
