Money will provide resources for learning and the cost of a project co-ordinator to give children the best start in their education.
About this cause
We support families within the Borough of Greenwich, for children aged 0-5 and we have been doing so for over 20 years. We have now set up a programme called 'Big Hopes Big Futures', which is all about getting children school ready. We offer a structured and fun programme that aims to develop the emotional, social, cognitive and practical skills children need for school, through play-based learning. It is recognised that if children start school without the basic skills for learning, they will remain on the back foot for a significant part of their early years. We run 6 groups a year and support up 15 children per group. Our aim is that all children can be given an equal opportunity to achieve their best at school.
How this cause brings people in the community together
As Greenwich is one of the most deprived and diverse boroughs of London, to be able to offer an opportunity for children to start on an equal footing, enabling them to have them the best start for school. This will help reduce the attainment gap with the less privileged families.
