About this cause
Smart Works Greater Manchester is a charity that provides high quality interview clothes, styling advice and interview training to women in need. We give women the confidence, the self-belief and practical tools they require to succeed at interview and start a new chapter of their life. Our service is delivered by over 30 highly skilled volunteers, and our stock comes donated through other working women or from our retail partners. Since launching in June 2015, we have helped over 700 women and we are incredibly proud that over 69% of those we were able to contact went on to get a job. In June 2017, Smart Works was named as Social Action Charity of the Year at the Charity Awards, and we now want to make our award winning service accessible to more women across Greater Manchester.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Manchester has 115 neighbourhoods that are classed in the top 10% of the most deprived in the country and Oldham, Salford and Rochdale are within the top 33 most deprived areas in England (IMD). There are over 36,100 women unemployed across GM and we support some of the most vulnerable women in society, giving them best chance of succeeding at their job interview and moving on with their lives.
