We want to refurbish the kitchen of the Friends' Cafe in the outpatient department for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff.
About this cause
The Friends of The Royal Marsden, Chelsea is a charity which, by means of fundraising, donations, legacies and subscriptions buys equipment, services and amenities for the benefit of patients at the hospital, which they might not otherwise have had. The charity also has around 170 volunteers who collectively give 20,000 hours of their time, five days a week, 52 weeks of thye year to the hospital. The Friends work in some 12 different departments in the hospital, running and staffing the Friends' Cafe, the Shop, and Shop trolley, the Hobbies trolley, Meet & Greet, the Garden and Flowers, Outpatients and Ward Assistance as well as selling and distrbituing Books and Magazines.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Every day, five days a week, patients to The Royal Marsden visit the cafe for hot and cold drinks, snacks and homemade cakes and sandwiches. The Cafe is an integral part of the hospital, not only for patients but also vistors and staff. Sadly, the kitchen facilities have not been upgraded for over 15 years and we cannot rely on NHS funds, hence our application to the Co-Op.
