Inveraray Shinty Club
Sport
We will spend the money on equipment and coaching courses. The equipment we require is plastic shinty sticks and soft balls.
About this cause
We are a sports club, giving people in and around Inveraray, an opportunity to get involved with sport or to be part of a club. We have members from as young as 5 years old to senior members who are recreational members. We have 7 teams within our club and around 60 playing members. Our objective is to be a community club actively engaging with all members of the community from young to old. For example we have fund raised for a defibrillator for community use, as well as hosting an open day where some of the proceeds from that day has been donated back to the Community Council, to help raise funds for a community mini bus. On the pitch our aim is to be successful, measuring this by either winning trophies with our senior team, or developing talent for our other 6 teams.
How this cause brings people in the community together
As a rural community it is difficult to play competitive sport due to travel distances. Our junior shinty team has various opportunities for kids to compete at sport. Along with the physical benefits competitive sport brings, there are elements of social inclusion and other life skills which can be learned through Shinty. Parents also benefit from the social element of Shinty.
