About this cause

Our goal is to provide temporary care and shelter for stray, abandoned and relinquished animals, and to place as many as possible into responsible and caring homes. We have a no euthanise policy unless on the advice of a vet. The Society was founded in 1947 by the late Bill & Marion Bryson to provide sanctuary and a home of rest for retired and ill-treated horses and ponies. Over the years the society has expanded and now also provides a shelter for dogs, cats, goats and other animals. The majority of the animals in our care may have been ill-treated, abandoned or their owner may have died leaving no one to care for them. Others may have simply been lost and their owner cannot be traced. Although our registered name is NCHPS, we are more commonly known as ‘Brysons’

How this cause brings people in the community together

We work very closely within the local community, Washington MIND service users & a large number of adults with special needs are regular volunteers who cat cuddle & dog walk. All our volunteers are part of the Brysons family. Volunteering helps with sense of belonging & well-being, helpfulness, caring, all our volunteers leave with the feeling they have made a difference which they have.
