We want to provide sports activities for young people aged 5-12 to keep them off the streets in a large South Carlisle housing estate.
About this cause
We are a community owned charity operating the newly refurbished sports hall and 3G pitches on behalf of local residents. Free term time access is given to Pennine Way Primary school. We provide sports facility hire by the hour and operate a range of coaching courses. We aim is to provide sustainable, low cost outside 3G football facilities plus sports hall facilities for minority sports and disabled groups. We operate an after school club for under 10's & during holiday times. We are actively seeking funding for equipment and resources for this purpose which this. The charity seeks to not rely on grants for running costs, only for equipment and projects. Day-to-day operations are sub-contracted to the co-op GLL organisation. 1st year break even t/o in 2016 was £206k.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Parent feedback and local primary schools in the area has been extremely positive. They felt activities engaged the kids who were safer with less exposure to young adults sometimes involved in vandalism and substance misuse. Overall we believe that such schemes benefit the wider community, not just those involved.
