We want to offer brand-new free arts activities and events to kids, families and the elderly in our community once a week.
About this cause
The Gate is between Roath, Cathays and Plasnewydd in Cardiff. In our area, access to the arts is extremely limited but from past experience, we know the life-changing power of the arts to express ideas, build confidence, strengthen communities and much more. That’s why our three aims are to promote the arts, develop individual creativity and engage our community. We use our theatre space, studios and community café and bar to hold community and youth projects, classes of all kinds and for all ages, events, community café nights, theatre, writing, visual arts, community cinema, music, and much more. We work with others to meet our communities needs and have worked with MadeinRoath, TAVS, Cardiff Fringe Theatre, local production companies, artists and businesses to do all that we can.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Having piloted ‘BREW’ (free monthly weekday activities) in our diverse and disadvantaged area we now want to do more! BREW exists for our community and has brought people of different ages, backgrounds and beliefs together to try new things. Many have developed skills, friends, and greater confidence to express themselves. We will continue to collaborate with local partners to put on these events.
