We want to implement an educational support programme, including trips out, for disadvantaged or vulnerable youngsters.
About this cause
As a service organisation, the club organises various events and fund raising exercises to support our involvement in a range of community activities at a local, national and international level. These include organising for the people of Barton-le-Clay an annual Senior Citizens tea (with entertainment) for villagers who have difficulty getting out and socialising on a regular basis. We also assist with the Christmas lights and take Santa's Sleigh around the village to meet the children and collect for Rotary charities. Funds are also raised through our unique Gastro Quiz which we run every year as well as other activities, often in conjunction with other local Rotary Clubs and we assist several charities through fundraising events and street/store collections.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Every school has its share of youngsters who are vulnerable in some way, whether by disability, impairment, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, family bereavement or economic circumstances. Although additional government funding is available for certain pupils (eg. to pay for classroom teaching assistants), it is never enough to provide the level of support required. We want to bridge that gap.
