The Snowdrop Project
Social Inclusion
Laptops, English and 'Readiness for work' classes, can help us open pathways to independence and employment for trafficking survivors.
About this cause
In the UK there are 13,000 victims of modern slavery. Modern slavery is an abuse of human rights - it is the buying and selling of a human being. People lose their autonomy, their freedom to make choices and are controlled by another. The Snowdrop Project is the first charity in the UK to specialise in addressing the long-term needs of survivors of slavery. We believe that once a person comes out of exploitation, every effort should be made to ensure a persons safety, well-being and a future free from exploitation. We provide 1-1 advocates, counselling, community activities and a house renovation service. People come to Snowdrop wondering where or how they are going to live, what their rights are or who they can trust; they leave with a sense of purpose, belonging and identity.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Sheffield has a large population of trafficking survivors. Lack of English, access to computers and limited knowledges of job processes in the UK form barriers to employment and independence. Through English classes and readiness for work support, we will reduce these. In doing so, we will improve pathways to employment in 'Coop Bright Futures' and other places of work in the local community.
