Wigtown Riding of the Marches
Sport
We want to make our event bigger and better. Funds will help with insurance, horse hire and first aiders.
About this cause
To recognise, preserve and celebrate the tradition of Riding the Marches in the Royal Burgh of Wigtown, and to educate each generation about the history and tradition associated with the event. In furtherance of these objects, the organisation shall: arrange the annual Riding of the Marches in the Royal Burgh of Wigtown on a date near mid-summer; see that the event is conducted safely, and in a way that encourages responsible participation and civic pride, and places value and importance on volunteering; and encourage participation by other community groups as part of a wider celebration that strengthens the community and welcomes visitors.
How this cause brings people in the community together
It gives the local community an old tradition whilst including the whole community, whatever age race or gender. It teaches children some of the history of their town as a Royal Burgh and gives horse riders a social and educational event. It is a great asset to Wigtown week and adds to the whole event. The event also benefits equestrian businesses in the area, farriers, feed merchants.
