About this cause
Pepenbury provide residential, day care and supported living services to adults with a wide spectrum of learning disabilities, including some physical disabilities throughout West Kent Social care is often discussed in terms of basic needs: being clean, dressed, and fed. This is one of our greatest challenges. Behind the statistics sit human beings who want to go on first dates, have jobs and laugh with friends in the pub, without the right support they struggle to do this. We provide support for social groups, workshops, training and volunteering opportunities. Only 6% of people with learning disabilities are in employment even though 67% want work, Business Buddies our recent initiative is hoping to change this statistic with dedicated staff supporting both employer and employees.
How this cause brings people in the community together
In the UK, only 6% of people with learning disabilities are in paid employment. Even though 67% want to work. By providing these training sessions we can help increase opportunities for a positive outcome for people who desperately want to earn their own money and be independent. These people would provide a valuable contribution to an employer and to our local community.
