About this cause

Aberdeenshire North Foodbank provides emergency food parcels of donated, non-perishable food to individuals and families experiencing hardship and crisis across north Aberdeenshire. We have three food distribution centres, in Ellon, Inverurie and Huntly where individuals can come and receive a food parcel. To do so, they must first be in receipt of a voucher from one of the 70 plus agencies and health and social care partners who work with us to assess need and issue vouchers for us. The Foodbank has one part-time employee and 50 regular volunteers who run the foodbanks and our central warehouse, collecting and sorting food donations, making up parcels, greeting clients and signposting them to additional help and services as appropriate. Demand for our service doubled in 2016.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The foodbank is a wonderful demonstration of a local community pulling together to help those within it who are struggling to feed themselves. Those benefitting are not only those who receive a food parcel but the volunteers themselves. They come from all walks of life and volunteering enables them to give something back to their community, gives them a sense of purpose and social interaction.
