About this cause
The NCT Ashford and District branch is run by a team of dedicated, local volunteers. Our aim to support families in the first 1000 days of life. The NCT is the UK's largest charity of its kind but at a branch level, we focus on local communities. Around 1 in 10 new mothers suffer from postnatal depression. Levels of breastfeeding initiated and at 6-8 weeks post-partum are lower in the area than the national average. There are also a significant number of children who live in poverty Through various activities, we offer families the chance to connect with their community and have a local support network, reducing feeling of isolation and providing an opportunity to share experiences. This all aids new parents in gaining emotional support and reassurance within a parent centred framework.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We are lucky in Ashford that we have lots of local outdoor events be it fairs, or fetes or open days. Decent, safe and clean baby changing and feeding facilities are hard to come by. We hope that by offering this service, more parents will be able to access events knowing that they can clean or feed their babies/children in a safe, private environment
