We want to increase the number of day trips and camps that we run for local disadvantaged children in and around Edinburgh.
About this cause
Children’s Holiday Venture is a student run charity working with underprivileged children in the Edinburgh area including Niddrie and Pilton, taking groups of children aged 8 -12 and 12-16 out on evening activities, day trips and weekend camps. Activities include ice skating, swimming, laser tag and so much more, all at no cost to children and their families. We work closely with local schools and social workers and are referred children that may need a little extra support due to an unsettled school or home life. The fortnightly activities and bigger trips give children a chance to relax and have fun and generally be kids! We try to provide opportunities for children to try new things, helping to build confidence and even school performance.
How this cause brings people in the community together
CHV provides a break for kids away from pressures of stressful home lives. Letting kids be kids, regardless of family income, is crucial in improving behaviour, and we even find that many children have better school performance. We aim to help children become more confident and driven in their own skills and goals, and find that parents, guardians and teachers see the difference!
